Contest

The “Write It In” Scriptwriting Contest from Scripting Aloud accepts short- or feature-length screenplays with English as the primary language, written by at least one BIPOC writer and/or featuring at least one BIPOC lead character. Scripting Aloud is a script development event run by the Pan Asian Staged Reading Society, a registered BC non-profit.

Opening Date: December 15, 2020
Regular Deadline: January 31, 2021
Late Deadline: February 28, 2021
Finalists Notifications: April 24, 2021

The contest encourages submissions that challenge systemic bias and racial divisions, or non-progressive mainstream perceptions of what scripts and stories BIPOC creators write and tell; stereotypes of BIPOC characters in mainstream media; and of what BIPOC audiences want to see. Submissions open to scripts of all genres with a narrative structure, except documentary and experimental/new media/music video.

Submissions are invited from writers with legal residency in Canada; if there is more than one writer, at least one co-writer must have legal residency in Canada.
